For Deaf and Deaf-Blind Employees

  • Request accommodations so that you can fully participate
  • Blackberry, email or videophones as necessary for job functions
  • Communication can be tiring. If you need an eye break, ask for a break in long meetings.
  • Set up turn-taking in meetings (use hand signals)
  • Use interpreters when necessary in meetings, team meetings, or discussions with employers
  • If you are not clear, put down the information and ask later for clarification

For Hard of Hearing Employees

  • Self-identify as Hard of Hearing so co-workers know how to accommodate communication needs
  • Request accommodations, FM loops, amplified phones
  • Set up expectations for note taker or CART services
  • Put down phrases or unclear words so you can clarify later
  • Request printed materials before meetings
